Outreach? Building Support For The Mission
Picture
Q: Why Focus on Outreach?

A:  Because People Forget.

People can forget that the work of community nonprofits is important for the future of us all. They focus on their own lives; they loose track of the bigger community picture, swamped by hundreds (thousands?) of messages every day, mostly advising them to serve their own interests. People need to be regularly reminded with a clear call to what they can do to join in support and make the critical difference.

We can make the "Case". We can give highly focused messages about the mission and the positive difference people make. We can involve them as "Stakeholders" in the future their community. In pictures, words and actions we communicate why they should become involved, how they can become involved and the joy of being involved together.

People can receive a regular series of messages that reach out to them. Messages such as reports on how we are doing, the direction we are heading, the challenges we face and the stories of people who are working together to meet the need we care about.

How do people come to the point of support? Many go through a process where they first become more aware of what we are doing, then they come to appreciate its importance and finally, to support the cause with contributions of time and money. Our communications outreach has an effect on creating a better future. There are few other ways that people will come to support these important efforts; they need to be told. We can involve them through the work of regularly communicating with them.

That is why we believe communications and outreach are important.
